Crossing Branches Cowl

Crossing Branches is worked in the round with a fun twisted rib motif. Simple cross over cables and an easy 8 round repeat make this cowl anything but boring.

Size:

Finished measurements: 22” / 56 cm circumference x 11” / 28 cm tall

Yarn:
~ 220 yards / 201 m of dk weight yarn or similar yarn that meets gauge.
Sample uses Brown Sheep Prairie Spun DK

Needles:
US7 / 4.5mm 16" circular needle

Gauge:
10 sts x 14 rows= 2" / 5 cm in pattern

Abbreviations:

BOR - Beginning of round
CO - Cast On
K1-tbl - Knit one stitch through back loop
P - Purl
PM - Place Marker
Rnd(s) - Round(s)
St(s) - Stitch(es)
1/2 RTPC: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to back, k the next st through the back loop (k1-tbl), then p1, k1-tbl from cable needle
1/2 LTPC: slip 1 st to cable needle, hold to front, k the next st through the back loop (k1-tbl), then p1, k1-tbl from cable needle

Directions:

Ribbing: 

Using the German Twisted Cast On method, CO 120 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. PM to mark BOR.

Rnd 1: *p1, k1-tbl ; repeat from * to end 

Rnds 2-7: repeat round 1 as established

Body:

Starting at the lower right corner of the chart and reading right to left, work sts 1-10 of repeat 12 times around and work rnds 1-8 of the cable repeat 6 times, then rnds 1-5 once more. See chart below.

Rnd 1: *p3, 1/2 RTPC, [p1, k1-tbl] twice, repeat from * to end

Rnd 2 and all even numbered rnds: *p2 [p1, k1-tbl] 4 times ; repeat * to end

Rnd 3: *p3, k1-tbl, p1, 1/2 LTPC, p1, k1-tbl ; repeat * to end

Rnd 5: *p3, [k1-tbl, p1] twice, 1/2 LTPC ; repeat * end

Rnd 7: *p3, k1-tbl, p1, 1/2 TRPC, p1, k1-tbl

 

Ribbing:

Rnd 1: *p1, k1-tbl ; repeat from * to end 

Rnds 2-7: repeat rnd 1 as established

Bind off loosely in pattern using stretchy bind off of choice. Block as desired.
