A Fiber Collective Issue 1 / July 2023
Welcome to A Fiber Collective Issue 1! A Fiber Collective embraces slow living and sustainability, with the common love of fiber, friends, and community. This magazine will be published 3 times a year, once every 4 months, and will include up to 5-6 knitting patterns, seasonal recipes, features highlighting behind the scenes of makers and farms, and other articles related to slow living, fiber love, and hand crafts.
We are currently looking for all submissions, including designs, essays, illustrations, crafts, and recipes. Information for each can be found on this page.
Inclusivity note: We welcome contributors of all backgrounds, including BIPOC and members of marginalized groups. Talent of all ranges are encouraged to send in a submission.
Design Submissions
We're looking for lightweight knits that make a great pair for the warmer weather. Embrace the sunshine and get outdoors, but don't leave those knits behind. Think 1-2 skein projects like ankle socks, lacy cowls, head bands, etc.
Deadline:
Design Submissions Due: April 3rd, 2023. We will choose selected designs and contact all designers on or before April 10th, 2023. Samples and patterns will be due by May 26th, 2023 Goal for launch: July 2023. Exact date TBD. *Please make sure this is an original pattern that has not been seen or published elsewhere.
Yarn:
Designers may choose to use any semi-solid yarn (no speckles) they would like, though for this issue we recommend using lighter weight yarns such as fingering or sport weight. Please double check and make sure this is not a yarn that will be discontinued in the near future. Yarn support will be provided.
Requirements:
- Designer information:
- Full name
- Email address
- Personal Web page and/or Ravelry URL
- Social Media sources & respective handles
- Detailed pattern information including construction details, techniques used, sizes offered and intended ease
- Yarn suggested
- Sketch of design
- A photograph of a swatch. While swatches do not need to be in the exact suggested yarn, we do suggest using a yarn similar to the intended finished project. Stitch patterns should also be blocked to show how the pattern will look in the final project.
Compensation will range between $100-$500 USD dependent on pattern type and complexity. A simple stockinette hat will not receive the same compensation as a cabled cardigan. Exclusive rights will be given to A Fiber Collective for the first 4 months after publication to sell in the print and digital magazine and on Ravelry as an e-book. After the 4 month exclusivity period, rights will revert to shared rights where the designers can re-publish and sell as they wish. A Fiber Collective will retain the ability to sell the print and digital magazine containing the pattern and will cease to sell the e-book on Ravelry.
Please submit a 1-2 page PDF with the required information to afibercollective@gmail.com . Please title your email: Submissions Call / AFC Issue 1. Have 2 submissions? Feel free to use the same email, but please have separate PDFs for each entry.
