Yarn: Brown Sheep Company Prairie Dk or similar dk weight yarn that gets gauge

Color A: 110 yds / 101 meters
Color B: 120 yds / 110 meters
** yardage is noted for the largest size, smaller sizes will need less yardage. Color B yardage includes pom pom.
Needles:
US3 / 3.25mm 16" circular needles
US5 / 3.75mm 16" circular needles
US5 / 3.75mm DPNs or 32" circular needles for working the crown
Notions: Stitch marker, scissors, darning needle
Gauge: 12 sts x 15 rows = 2” stockinette on larger needle
Abbreviations:
CO - cast on
K - knit
K2tog - knit 2 stitches together ; 1 st decreased
P - Purl
PM - place marker
Rnd(s) - round(s)
SSK - slip, slip, knit ; 1 st decreased
St(s) - stitches
Instructions:
Brim:
Using Color A and the German Twisted Cast On method, CO 96 (108, 120, 132, 144) sts. Join to knit in the round being careful not to twist stitches. PM to note BOR.
Rnd 1: *k1, p1 ; rep * to end
Rep rnd 1 until ribbing measures 2” / 5 cm from cast on edge.
Change to larger needles
Body:
Begin chart starting at the lower right corner and reading from right to left, work rnds 1-32 repeating the 6 st repeat 16 (18, 20, 22, 24) times around. Change colors as shown in chart.
After completing the rnds 1-32 of the chart, knit even with Color A for 7 rnds or until hat measures 2” / 5cm less than desired length
Crown:
Rnd 1: *k2tog, k8, ssk ; repeat * to end (80 (90, 100, 110, 120 sts)
Rnds 2-3: knit all
Rnd 4: *k2tog, k6, ssk ; repeat * to end (64 (72, 80, 88, 96 sts)
Rnds 5-6: knit all
Rnd 7: *k2tog, k4, ssk ; repeat * to end (48 (54, 60, 66, 72 sts)
Rnds 8-9: knit all
Rnd 10: *k2tog, k2, ssk ; repeat * to end (32 (36, 40, 44, 48 sts)
Rnds 11-12: knit all
Rnd 13: *k2tog, ssk ; repeat * to end (16 (18, 20, 22, 24 sts)
Rnds 14-15: knit all
Rnd 16: *k2tog ; repeat * to end (8 (9, 10, 11, 12 sts)
Rnds 17-18: knit all
Finish:
Break yarn leaving a 12 inch tail. Weave tail through live sts 2-3 times and cinch to tighten. Weave end through inside of hat and fasten off. Block as desired.
