Easy Ear Warmers

We're easing into the week with some super simple ear warmers! These ear warmers use a provisional cast on and are knit in the round until ready to seam with a Kitchener stitch. The best thing is these can absolutely be altered to your preference in width and length!

Size:
One Size
Finished measurements:
4.5” wide (9” in the round) x 18” circumference
11.5 cm (23cm in the round) x 46 cm circumference

Yarn:
~ 130 yards / 119 m of dk weight yarn or similar yarn that meets gauge
Sample uses Brown Sheep Prairie Spun DK

Needles:
US5 / 3.75 mm 32" circular needle x 2

Gauge:
11 sts x 15 rows= 2" / 5 cm in pattern

Abbreviations:

BOR - Beginning of round
CO - Cast On
PM - Place Marker
Rnd(s) - Round(s)
St(s) - Stitch(es)

Directions:

Using scrap yarn and Provisional Cast-On method, CO 50 sts. Join main yarn and knit 1 row. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Knit one round.

If using magic loop method, separate sts so one half (25 sts) are on one needle, and the other half on the other. Place a removable stitch marker nearby to note BOR.

Body:

Continue knitting stockinette stitch until piece measures approximately 18” / 46 cm or desired length for a comfortable fit. Recommended fit is 1-3” / 2.5-7.5 cm of negative ease.

Note: I recommend steam blocking at this point to make sure you will have the fit that is right for you.

Knit 25 stitches. This will place BOR on wrong side and your needles facing the opposite direction of the spare needles in the next step.

Finishing:

Pick up stitches at provisional cast on and carefully unstitch the scrap yarn. Make sure when the fabric is flat the needles are facing opposite of the working needles.

Twist one end 180 degrees (the points of your knitting needles should now be facing the same direction - see Figure 1.2) and graft ends together using Kitchener Stitch. Block as desired.

*This pattern is easily adjustable. Simply add or remove stitches to your cast on to adjust width.
